The role
A vacancy exists for a Senior Research Scientist position for 36 months, working on an innovative NERC-funded project to develop an immunomagnetic separation (IMS) tool for the detection of Toxoplasma gondii oocysts in water.
The appointed person will be based at the Moredun Research Institute working with scientists in the protozoology group and the Moredun Proteomics Facility. They will also have close working relationships with the grant Co-Investigator at the University of Strathclyde, and project partners including the water industry and international collaborators. The post requires a very experienced, highly motivated and self-driven person that can deliver this ambitious project in a specific time frame.
The project involves:
working with infective stages of T. gondii (oocysts)
proteomic analysis of oocyst wall proteins
optimisation of IMS detection methods that allow the detection of parasites in water
standard molecular biology and immunology techniques including PCR and ELISA
conducting in vivo experiments

Experience required
You must have:
PhD in Parasitology or a related scientific discipline.
Established research profile with peer-reviewed publications.
Knowledge of Toxoplasma gondii and protozoan parasite detection.
Experience of molecular biology and immunology techniques (PCR, ELISA).
Proven ability to lead research projects and manage stakeholder collaborations.
Experience in grant writing and environmental sample analysis.
